I am blessed to be to be the chapel speaker for CHESS.
We’re in the Sermon on the Mount, chapter 6, in a section that climaxes with, But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his
righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. This naturally led me to ask, What is the kingdom of God?
Here is the simple answer.
+ The kingdom of God was promised and prophesied
throughout the Old Testament. The promise was, Messiah is coming, and with
him the salvation of God. This is the gospel, the promised Messiah has come and
brought the kingdom. this is the Christ -- Jesus
whom I proclaim to you. (Acts 17:3 YLT)
+ The simplest way to define the kingdom is found in the
word itself; kingdom. Let me explain it visually: KINGdom. This is where God rules. Where God rules is
salvation. Wherever the king is, there is the kingdom. Oh yeah, Jesus is the
King.
Luke 1:32-33 He
shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God
shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall
reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no
end.
+ New Testament definitions of the kingdom
Luke 1:74-75 That he would grant
unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him
without fear, In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our
life.
Romans 14:17 For the kingdom of
God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy
Ghost
1 Corinthians 4:20 For the kingdom of God is not in word,
but in power.
+ The kingdom of God is
Spiritual
Luke 17:20-21 And when he was
demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered
them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: Neither shall
they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.
Physical
Isaiah 11:4-9
4 But with righteousness shall
he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he
shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his
lips shall he slay the wicked.
5 And righteousness shall be the
girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.
6 The wolf also shall dwell with
the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the
young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.
7 And the cow and the bear shall
feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw
like the ox.
8 And the sucking child shall
play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the
cockatrice' den.
9 They shall not hurt nor
destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge
of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.
Political
Revelation 11:15 The kingdoms of
this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and
he shall reign for ever and ever.
+ The kingdom of God deals with
Sin
Matthew 1:21 And she shall bring
forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people
from their sins.
Satan
1 John 3:8 For this purpose the
Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
Death
Hebrews 2:14-15 Forasmuch then
as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took
part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of
death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all
their lifetime subject to bondage.
Creation
Romans 8:19-22 (NKJV)
19 For the earnest expectation
of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God.
20 For the creation was
subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in
hope;
21 because the creation itself
also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty
of the children of God.
22 For we know that the whole
creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now.
This is good news indeed. This is just the outline. If we fill this out we would have the New Testament!
